Reading your story about the sudden switch from Chicago’s wind‑blown streets to San Diego’s sun‑kissed boardwalk sparked a memory of my own bi‑coastal shuffle. I spent a summer interning in Chicago, constantly battling the lake‑effect chill, and would spend every weekend day‑dreaming about palm trees and surf. When I finally moved to San Diego for a graduate program, the first thing I did was drive down to La Jolla and sit on the pier, watching the waves roll in while the city skyline faded behind me. The contrast was jarring yet exhilarating—the gritty, fast‑paced hustle of the Midwest gave way to a laid‑back, ocean‑driven rhythm that felt like a reset button for my mind.
